Inspiring students to DREAM of their future, BELIEVE in themselves, and ACHIEVE their goals
Welcome to Roosevelt School. We are the newest K-8 school in the district with 6th grade added in the 2011/2012 school year and 7th grade added for the 2012/2013 school year. 8th grade will be added for the 2013/2014 school year. Grades K-8 offer a Project Based Learning (PBL) Curriculum.
PBL focuses on the core academics, with in-depth investigations in social studies and science. Students are challenged to work cooperatively, think critically and present their work in front of an audience. A variety of engagement strategies are used to ensure that all students are focused and participate.
Our 2012 Academic Performance Index (API) scores showed a significant gain of 62 points with growth in all subgroups. Congratulations to our hard working students and staff for such a wonderful achievement!
We are very proud of our hardworking staff and we are thrilled to announce that 6th grade teacher Sarah Coyle has been awarded San Mateo County's Teacher of the Year for 2013. San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Anne Campbell remarked, “Ms. Coyle is a committed professional whose high expectations for her students result in their buoyed confidence and measurable academic growth. Her enthusiasm and creativity combine to produce a fun and adventurous learning environment.”
As the only school in the Redwood City School District that has integrated PBL into all classrooms benefiting all students, we are proud to see our hard work recognized. Congratulations to our laudable teachers and staff through whose hard work our Project Based Learning program was awarded the 2012 J. Russell Kent Award by the San Mateo County School Boards Association. These awards are given to outstanding programs that are being implemented in a school district, county office of education, or in the community college district in San Mateo County.
We are also pleased to announce that the Roosevelt Kindergarten Team received the San Mateo County Reading Association (SMCRA) Celebrate Literacy Award for their Targeted Literacy Instruction Groups. SMCRA recognizes programs for their significant contributions to reading instruction and literacy projects in San Mateo County. The Targeted Literacy Instruction Groups program also received the coveted J. Russell Kent Award in 2009 for program innovation and excellence.
Thank you to our dedicated teachers, staff and parents who work tirelessly to make Roosevelt's PBL program a leader in San Mateo County and the Redwood City School District.
There is still time to apply for the 2013/2014 school year!
Some of our grade levels don't currently have a waitlist. Contact the District's School of Choice office at 650-423-2200 for more information or download a School of Choice Transfer Application.
Please Note: If your child is in 5th grade and not currently enrolled at Roosevelt, you must turn in a School of Choice Transfer Application to the District Office if you would like your child to attend Roosevelt for middle school.
