From Kindergarten Teacher to Superintendent, Baker Rises Through the Ranks to Lead District into a New Era Dominated by Technology and Collaborative Learning Redwood City School Board President Dennis McBride announced at the April 8 board meeting that the Board of Trustees has selected Deputy Superintendent John Baker to lead the district beginning July 1, 2015. The Redwood City School District reached a tentative agreement with the Redwood City Teachers Association (RCTA) today, resolving negotiations for the 2014-2015 school year. Under the terms of the agreement, teachers will receive a total increase of 3.0%, of which 2% will be retroactive to July 1, 2014 and the remaining 1.0% will be effective, June 1, 2015. Hoover Community School has been named a Seal of Excellence School by the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), and will be recognized at CABE’s 40th annual conference March 4-7 in San Diego. Hoover was one of only three schools statewide to be selected for this honor, and is being recognized for its Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) program. On February 11, the Independent Citizen’s Oversight Committee for Measure W, the parcel tax passed by Redwood City School District voters in June, 2012, presented its 2nd annual report to the District’s Board of Trustees stating the nine-member Committee’s unanimous finding that all Year Two (2013-14) Measure W proceeds were spent in accordance with the parcel tax measure.
