"When I was at Goodwin/Kennedy, my P.E. teacher Mr. Callas encouraged me to do the high jump. I was only five feet tall and when I jumped 4'11" at the city meet and finished second, I was in seventh heaven. At the end of practice, Mr. Callas let me take additional jumps because we knew that that's what it takes to become special."
"The summer following my 8th grade year, I attended the Russia versus USA track meet at Stanford University. I watched the most spectacular sporting event of my life and was able to witness the Russian star high jumper Valeriy Brumel set the world record in his event and little did I know that I would chase his record for the next 24 years."
My high school teacher, Mr. Nugent said "What I am to be I, am now becoming." I took his words to heart in working to become the best high jumper I could be."
