Hello and welcome to Henry Ford! My name is Lynne Griffiths. I am the principal at Henry Ford Elementary School. We are very proud of the Home of the Mustangs and we would like to tell you a little bit about ourselves.  We are unique in the Redwood City School District, a true neighborhood school that celebrates the diversity of its kindergarten through fifth grade students.  We strive to create an atmosphere of academic excellence in a safe and nurturing environment for all students.  Our staff has created a Professional Learning Community (PLC) that focuses on learning, collaboration and results.  Our teachers are well trained and experienced in differentiating instruction so that all students have the knowledge and skills to reach their potential. We believe that the ability to read, write, speak, listen, and compute are the keys to achievement in future pursuits. Our commitment is to meet the needs of all students by providing the academic, social, and emotional successes that are essential to the development of a child's potential. Together, home, school and community, we will raise our children to be equipped to successfully meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Our academic performance speaks for itself as the school was able to exit Program Improvement (PI) based on making Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for the second consecutive year in 2010.  Since 2005, Henry Ford's student achievement has seen a steady trend of increase, going from 35% of students attaining proficient or advanced scores in 2005, to 58% in 2012 in English Language Arts, and from 49% in 2005 to 74% in 2012 in Math. Our growth Academic Performance Index (API) n 2012 is 833.  An API of 800 and above is considered proficient by the state of California.

Mustang students not only work hard, they play hard as well.  Our students enjoy weekly Physical Education classes, Character Education, Art in Action, classroom music programs in all grades, a well stocked library and computer lab.  We have a school garden and are working hard to "go green".  School events include our annual Fall Fiesta, Field Day, Game Nights and our fabulous end of the year Pasta Dinner.  We liaison with private enterprise and our own staff to bring after school programs such as art, chess, individual music lessons and Police Activity League (PAL) sports to our students, as well as Redwood City Park and Recreation Services and our Child Development Center (CDC) on site.
