Redwood City After School Sports Program http://www.teamsideline.com/redwoodcityDescription of Program The Redwood City After School Sports Program is a year-round, school-based sports program that is provided by the Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, in collaboration with the Sheriff's Activities League, the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, and supported by the Redwood City Police Activities League. We provide programs that encourage good sportsmanship, teamwork, a positive attitude and mutual respect to build a strong community within Redwood City. We promote life skills development by providing a safe place for youth to engage in physical activity that develops their talents and self-esteem. The Redwood City Parks & Recreation Department serves the following schools: School sports may look a little different these days, but parents looking for sports teams for their children have some great choices. We spoke with Erin Niemeyer, Recreation Coordinator for Redwood City about the status of after school sports in Redwood City and at Roy Cloud. Do Redwood City schools have sports teams? Yes!Students in the Redwood City School District have the opportunity to participate in sports for their school. The Redwood City After School Sports Program is a year-round, school-based sports program that is provided by the Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, in collaboration with the Sheriff's Activities League, the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, and supported by the Redwood City Police Activities League. How much does they cost? It varies by sport, but most sports only cost $50 dollars. In most cases, this includes an 8-week season, a team jersey, and a school T-shirt. Some sports (like indoor soccer) are less expensive and some sports (like golf) are more expensive. But, we never want to turn a child away, so we offer scholarships or payment plans for those who qualify. What grade levels are included in the school sports? Most of our sports are offered to children 8 years and older and start in 4thgrade. There are a few sports that begin at a younger age. The Jr. Giants Baseball program is offered to children as young as 5 year sold and the Jr. Dribblers Basketball is offered beginning in the 2ndgrade. Which sports are available? We offer a variety of sports throughout the school year and over the summer. Fall Street Hockey, 4-5 graders Volleyball Clinic, 4-8 graders Volleyball, 4-8 graders Cross Country, 5-8 graders Flag Football, 6-8 graders Golf, ages 8-15 Winter Basketball, 4-8 graders Winter Break Basketball, 4-8 graders Indoor Soccer, ages 8-14 Golf, ages 8-15 Spring Jr. Dribblers Basketball, 2-3 graders Soccer, 4-8 graders Wrestling, 5-8 graders Track and Field, 6-8 graders Ready, Set, Run, ages 8-14 Golf, ages 8-15 Summer Volleyball camp, 4-8graders Basketball, 6-8 graders Jr. Giants Baseball,ages 5-7 & 8-10 Indoor Soccer, ages 8-14 How do I find out about the sports available at Roy Cloud? What if the sport my child wants to play is not at his or her Roy Cloud. Can I help get it started?
