I originally decided to teach children with special needs because when I was a child I had difficulty learning to read. I know the frustration first hand, and I also know the feeling of triumph when succeeding despite difficulties.

Working with children with special needs can be challenging but it is also very rewarding.  Supporting my students and seeing them progress  is the most meaningful part of my job. I also enjoy trying to figure out what approach will help an individual child succeed in an area in which they struggle.

This is my ninth year teaching in the Redwood City School District and my fifth year at Orion. As soon as I started teaching at Orion I felt as if I had come home—I love this school, the philosophy, the staff, and especially, the children.  I may have less students than other teachers at Orion but I know a lot of Orion children by name, and they know me. This connection with the whole school is very important to me.

I majored in history at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and graduated cum laude. I took some time off to become a mother then got my teaching credential for special education at San Francisco State University. I am originally from Berkeley but now live on the Coastside with my husband, son, and two cats.
