Robert "Robbie" Frederick
After spending 17 years in the hotel business, in the year 2000 I decided to go in a different direction, one that had meaning and purpose, so I went back to school to get my teaching credential. Two years later, I became a CLAD/ECE (Early Childhood) credentialed teacher (the 8th teacher in my family). You could say that it is in my genes!
In August of 2003, after applying to the Redwood City School District, I was called in for an interview at Orion, and was soon after hired. It was a perfect fit! I have been teaching kindergarten all but one of the years since then. I love teaching to the whole child as much as I can, and believe in making every day as engaging and fun as possible. You could say that I am a kid at heart! I often joke that I will teach kindergarten until I can't get up off the carpet anymore!
In addition to my regular teaching duties, over the years I have developed the “performing arts” program at Orion, which has won the Kent Award for outstanding school programs in San Mateo County. I direct the 3-5 grade chorus, the 3-5 grade play, two k-2 plays, and the all school variety show. It is a labor of love, and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
