Results from a recent survey of Redwood City School District parents, staff and students that measured perception of the schools’ academic strengths and weaknesses, and overall satisfaction with the district indicate that parent, staff and students are very satisfied with academics, safety and the atmosphere at each school. On June 25, 2014, the School Board conditionally approved petitions from two charter schools, KIPP and Rocketship. KIPP and Rocketship will operate independently of the Redwood City School District, but the school district will have legal oversight of the two schools. The schools will open in the fall of 2015 if the details describing the working relationship between the charters and the District can be worked out in Memorandums of Understanding. On June 2, 2014, the Redwood City School District reached a tentative agreement with the Redwood City Teachers Association (RCTA), resolving negotiations for the 2013-2014 school year. Under the terms of the agreement, teachers will receive a total increase of 3.5%, of which 2% will be retroactive to July 1, 2013 and the remaining 1.5% will be effective today, June 2, 2014.
