About our School

John Gill Elementary School serves 420 children in kindergarten through 5th grade. The school has a long history of academic achievement and is proud to offer an award-winning multi-age program and performing arts focus.
Update (February, 2010):
John Gill will have both multi-age and single-grade options available in the 2010-2011 school year.

Multi-age Program

In addition to traditional single-grade classrooms, John Gill offers multi-age classrooms where students stay with the same teacher for three years. Benefits of our multi-age program include:
  • Consistency of a three-year placement
  • A strong sense of community, responsibility and caring for others
  • High teacher accountability
  • Opportunities for children to be both learners and teachers

Traditional Single-grade Classrooms

There is also a strand of traditional, single-grade classrooms for children in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, where children make considerable academic progress.

Performing Arts Focus

Students at John Gill receive performing arts instruction from kindergarten through the 5th grade. The performing arts program includes:
  • Twice-weekly dance classes that fulfill physical education objectives of improving strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness
  • At least one public dance performance per year that combines dance, singing and theater
  • Choral music lessons for children in 2nd through 4th grade
  • A yearly multimedia theater production by upper-grade students
  • Instrumental music offered for all 5th graders
Our objective is to provide children with high-quality performing arts experience so that they may experience the joy, self empowerment, academic growth and physical exuberance associated with the arts and performing.

Garden Program

Sponsored by Hidden Villa, the garden program gives students experience working in an organic garden. Lessons are tied to the curriculum, and help students become stewards for the environment and the community.

Other Programs

John Gill offers before and after-school care through several on-campus programs. We also provide special education programs to meet our students' specialized needs.
